Where are the Monks?

When the Olympic torch passed through Tibet on June 21, Chinese paramilitary police heavily guarded the relay and most Tibetans stayed away. Buddhist pilgrims, visiting the region during the holy month of Saka Dawa, were blocked from many religious sites. And journalists on the scene noticed a conspicuous absence of Buddhist monks.
